While each headshot client may have a slightly different timeline, here’s the general breakdown of what happens when you book a headshot session with me.

Note that the following generally pertains to headshots done at my space. Read about the process for corporate headshots taken at an office.

  1. You decide, “Ari is the photographer for me!” and fill out my contact form (or maybe you still have questions, in which case you can ask me anything).

  2. I send you an email within 24 hours – usually same day, unless it’s past my bedtime which is embarrassingly early. I ask if there’s a good time to chat on the phone. WAIT, DON’T RUN. I hate phone calls too… unless they’re with someone nice, which I am! I promise this isn’t a “sales” call, just a way to connect. Also much easier than emailing back and forth for days.

  3. On the phone, we chat about what you do, what kind of session you need, what you might wear, and any other questions that come up. We may schedule a day and time for the session on the call.

  4. When you arrive for the session, I try to remember to offer you water, tea, or seltzer (if I forget, please ask). We decide which backgrounds work best with which clothing.

  5. I ask what music you’d like to listen to. If you don’t have a preference, it’ll probably be some boring acoustic “coffeeshop” playlist.

  6. I do not have time constraints on sessions – we establish how many looks you want, and however long it takes is however long it takes. I only schedule one person a day so I won’t kick you out for someone else.

  7. I can show you some headshots as we go so you know what you look like. Feel free to adjust anything in between looks. I always help with adjusting hair and clothing.

  8. You are welcome to meet my dog if you want. He will be more than eager to come out of the bedroom where, according to him, he has been cruelly left alone to starve.

  9. After the session, you walk out, thinking, “Wow, that was so easy, why was I nervous?”

  10. Later that day or the next (depending on my schedule), I go through your headshots to delete any “bad” ones which are usually only “bad” because of something I did, not because you look bad.

  11. I upload your color-corrected headshots to a private online gallery and send you the link. I can also choose my favorites and put those in a separate gallery.

  12. When you’re ready, you choose which headshots you’d like retouched and email me those file numbers.

  13. I retouch headshots within three days and send them via wetransfer. I can also send smaller versions for Instagram, LinkedIn, or anything else. I do not charge extra for additional crops or sizes.

  14. You let me know if there are any retouch adjustments to make or if they’re good to go.

  15. Go get those jobs!!!
